Too much or not enough

1 John says “God is love.”

Christians see this and are encouraged. They know that God is love and that God is just. Since God is just, he must punish those who sin. Since God is love, he made a way out of that punishment through His Son, Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ bled and died on a cross taking the punishment for the sins you and I have done. God demonstrated His love in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Atheists see what God did, and say He didn’t do enough. He doesn’t stop all wickedness in it’s tracks instantly, and punish the wicked enough or soon enough; hence the atheist’s problem with pain. The only problem is that if God stopped all evil instantly, and gave every person instant justice for what they had done, no one would live. He who keeps the whole law and stumbles in one point is guilty of all. And, the wages of sin is death. God is very merciful in letting us live so long and giving us so many chances to repent, turning to Him.

Muslims see God’s perfect justice and that He allows none to escape his wrath. The idea of a loving God, and that God would let someone take the punishment for another out of love is simply TOO MUCH love. They believe God does not love, or if He does love, it is very little, and he can change his mind. It is God’s mercy that lets people live, and his mercy that saves some, though those people don’t know who they are.

God’s word is clear. 1 John 5:13 says, “I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life.” You can know you will be in Heaven one day.

God is love. He is good and kind. He is merciful. He made the only way for people to be saved from sin and the punishment for sin through His Son, Jesus Christ.
